Pastor
Pastor Umbarger was brought to faith during his senior year in High School, after which he felt called to enter the public ministry. He completed his undergraduate degree at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. He graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary - Fort Wayne, IN in 1987. He previously served as pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church - Roanoke, IL and Concordia Lutheran Church - Decatur, IL. He has served as St. John's pastor since 1995. He has been actively involved in service to the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod. He also has many years of service to the community as a volunteer hospital chaplain and as the chaplain of the East Moline Police Department. He and his sainted wife were blessed with three children. In 2020 he remarried and resides with his wife, Carla, in Bettendorf, IA.
Kimberly Bower
Deaconess Intern
Kimberly grew up in the Denver Metro area of Colorado and received her Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado – Boulder in 2021. During her time at CU, she decided to pursue churchwork and applied to the Deaconess Studies program through Concordia Theological Seminary – Ft. Wayne. She has spent the last two years in study there and has been assigned to St. John’s as a Deaconess Intern. In her free time, she enjoys reading, crocheting, trying new recipes, and playing her cello.
Ann Churchill

Ann graduated with honors from Riverdale High School in Port Byron, IL. She went on to earn an Associate's Degree in business from Black Hawk College, and a Bachelor's in Health and Human Services from Western Illinois. She was a stay at home mom for several years until her youngest child started school. She is happily married to Craig, a welder at the Rock Island Arsenal, and mom to Stratton, Sloane, and Briella. Her hobbies include cooking, reading crime mysteries, watching Friends reruns, and spending time with family.
Christine Engebrecht
Music Director
Christine grew up in northeastern Wisconsin where her father served as a pastor in a dual parish. It was in one of these small country churches that she began playing the organ for Sunday services. She attended Concordia College, River Forest, IL, graduating with a BA and MA in elementary education and an emphasis in parish music. Her first call to teach was at Salem Lutheran School in Jacksonville, IL. There she met her husband, Brian. They were married while he was completing his medical studies in Chicago and moved to the Quad Cities after he graduated. Christine homeschooled all three of their children through high school and upon retiring from the job of homeschool mom, God has blessed her with new opportunities to serve Him, including directing the music program at St. John’s, helping with a refugee literacy program in Rock Island, and volunteering at an equine therapy stable in Sherrard, IL.
Eric and Jill Schofield

Jill has been a confirmed member of St. John's since she was a child. Eric & Jill were married at St. John's on March 1, 2003. They have a blended family of 4 children and 4 grandchildren. Eric has worked at Xpac for over 30 years. Jill works full time as the Enrollment Manager at Aldridge Early Learning Center, and is a Mary Kay consultant. We have 3 dogs and 1 cat. We have lived in Silvis most of their adult lives.
